My municipality is mostly French Canadians and we celebrate what has always been recognized as the French Canadian Holiday which is on June 24 and it’s called ‘St-Jean Baptiste’.
 

The problem is Québec Nationalists have taken over the St-Jean Baptiste as their own national holiday.  To get funding for our town’s celebrations for the St-Jean Baptiste, the committee had to agree to have Canadian Flags everywhere and also give Canada pins and flags.  It wasn’t even hidden, it was clearly a purchase of airspace for the national agenda.
 

P.S. I am not going anywhere, I love Canada, I am not moving to Québec, you don’t have to buy me federal government.  This was a blatant case of insult to my intelligence but what mostly frustrates me is the obligation, the tie-in to get funds to have our town fair.
 

In one way, I hope the organizers felt this way… give us your money to organize our town celebration and p.s. we are holding it on June 24^th… not July 1^st.   We are strong and smart enough that it doesn’t bother us that you fly 2 million Canadian flags…we love Canada and still retain our French Canadian identity.
