Whit made a great comment on my last post.  After mentioning that I spoke to the people at the view, Whit made the comment to aim for Oprah.

I was at a presentation 2 years ago from Brian Scudamore who owns 1-800-GOT-JUNK.  We were 15 people in the room.  His story started with himself and his business partner dressing up their first front office and they were working on what they would put behind the receptionist.  Turns out Brian wanted to put a picture of the Space Shuttle with the Canadian Arm cleaning up space with a 1-800-GOT-JUNK sticker on it.  Well his partner thought this was way too crazy a visualization.

They settled for a picture of Brian and Oprah.  The receptionist got so many questions from walk-in customer…so you guys were on Oprah!  … and the receptionist to respond…. Oh no we will be on Oprah…  but we just aren’t sure when.

Brian has since been twice on Oprah…

This is my screen saver…. you can all have a good laugh, I won’t be pissed! I might actually keep any comments saying I am plain crazy as extra motivation!  I see this on a daily basis… some days, I can almost touch it, some days it seems so far away I feel like closing my laptop but yet I have never removed it since my assistant installed it when we launched the site a year ago.

Cheers,

New York Central

I am on the corner of Madison & 40th in New York.  For somebody who grew up in a small town, visiting New York is quite the experience.  In any city I visit for the first time, I like to go jogging with the locals to get a feel that is non-touristy.

As I jogged my way on Broadway northbound to reach Central Park, I come to an intersection that is closed….12 police cars circling a corner store and people everywhere… I keep on jogging and then a thought crosses my mind… What if the police is looking for somebody… They look in the crowd and there is a guy running in the back with a Toque and a Hood (It was freaking cold!).

I didn’t get shot and I did make it to central park and no I didn’t get mugged!  The week off was fabulous and I really enjoyed it.  I almost didn’t miss the kids and for a reason I can understand… I didn’t really like the takeoff or the landing… Having 2 kids sure changes your perspective when landing at JFK airport!

I met with an assistant producer at the TV show the View for my time capsule web site and hopefully something can come out of it… Me, Rosie, Barbara and the Gang :-)

Crazy Larry - Travels Ottawa/Banff/New York - Kim Mitchell look alike

Well it’s the end of a great trip.  As I am writing this on the 34th floor of my hotel in times square, I can only think of Crazy Larry.   See Crazy Larry was the most generous soul I have found on my trip.

Me and spouse walk out of Banff Springs and I decide to walk to the next bus stop rather than waiting 30min for the bus to arrive.  We walk and walk and walk, the bus crosses our position but going to the springs.  At that point I know we (I) am screwed.  We will never make it in time to the bus stop.

We obviously don’t and I see the bus coming behind us.  In despair, I put my hands on my head… and the bus stops.  In the middle of the street!   The door opens and who is there… Crazy Larry the bus driver… He is laughing his head off.. You should have seen your face! It’s priceless!  You thought you would get to the bus stop Hey!  The Map is screwed up man!

Whoa!  I’m saved… but that’s nothing to what is coming next…

As we drive down to town, Crazy Larry again, stops before the designated location.  He opens the door and starts welcoming his next passenger, it is obvious the lady is intellectually deficient.  Well he gives her the warmest welcome with a hum and smile.  The lady… she is in heaven!  I strongly suppose the attention she receives must be the greatest gift she receives in her day.

To a great soul, Crazy Larry you will be remembered… not so much for picking me up but for the smile I saw on this ladies’ face.
