8 five years old for 4 hours…piece of cake….except after the sugar rush from the cake….
What can I say, it was a blast!

I seem to be phasing in and out of blogging… Why? Well, I find it’s a mix of availability of my time and my interest in it.
As an entrepreneur, I usually focus on single topics for weeks until I find the answer I am seeking…either positive or negative. I don’t typically watch tv and have no clue what is going on on any reality tv show. Thus I find I have the same ‘attitude’ with blogging. I start reading and reading and reading and I start back writing again.
I strongly suppose I will follow the same pattern in the same future!
So what has been happening in my life and at Electronic Time Capsule. Well a fair bit, I am still involved in a Lapointe Drainage (an excavation company) and we are currently working on building the largest water park in Canada. It’s pretty amazing to see it happen. Electronic Time Capsule will be going through it’s first major changes/alterations in the upcoming weeks with addition and changes I can’t comment on!!!
Personally, my spouse flew off to Cuba for a week and last week I took care of my brothers kids for 4 days… So it’s been busy but frankly a lot of fun.

Zoé and Alexis looking for easter eggs!
When I created this service, it was from my angle. A first time father who couldn’t write what he wanted to his daughter in her journal as she might read it when she will be 5. The alternative was a bunch of sealed envelopes with a ‘do not open before’ date on it…
We all know what happened in back to the future… Marty did put the letter back together but that’s beyond the point. I strongly suspected she would open them up before the date.
This being said, the reason why somebody uses my services i.e. the angle they are coming from is not a question that is asked when you sign up for the service. I do know there are different angles out there because I have heard them in trade shows, I have heard them in the market study.
If you are willing to share your angle for using my services, please let me know, either by responding to this post or by simply emailing me at david@electronictimecapsule.com
If not, whatever your angle is, I am happy that you find my service useful.
For me it’s all those small moments…

One of the thoughest jobs I find as an entrepreneur is hiring and firing or laying off individuals. Yesterday I laid off one guy and also took a 1988 Kenworth off the road. The rig didn’t say anything, it just rested it’s metal and fiberglass body as it had done it’s time.
As for the individual I laid off well it was another story. Individuals have pride, families and lives. I know it comes with the territory but I don’t think I will ever be able to remove that felling from my stomach. I don’t think any ‘boss’ ever likes firing/laying off people.
I guess I must have dealt with it properly as this afternoon we got a new contract which required us to re-hire this individual. We called him at noon and he was in by 12h30.
Thanks, you know who you are.
Because of my involvement with my in-laws business (www.lapointedrainage.ca ) I have being versed on a brand new industry that is…way different from anything I have experienced.
I was at a Drainage convention last week and it was bizarre. For one I didn’t understand anything anybody said because the lingo of this industry is new to me and second because none of the presenters had any knowledge of the basics of presenting. This made for long presentations and too much coffee.
What is there to say about the drainage industry except it’s misunderstood if not completely unknown from the public in general!
I think 4 days away on business once in a while is actually a good thing for an entrepreneur. Traveling permits me to think beyond the day to day or the evident issues and really work on planning and the ideas germinates in my brain. The fact you also don’t have to deal with human resources also removes a lot of the clutter.
It is also a good reminder to enjoy your time with the kids as you miss them so much. I am pretty sure I am good for another 3 months now!
I was raised with three brothers and I can’t really comment on what it’s like to live as a single child. As you will see below, my kids don’t always get along but I think they do love each other.
If they don’t get along it will be most likely because…
Stalking his prey Alexis the 2 year old will stare down the object of affection of Zoé. Once the lovely Zoé leaves the said object unattended for more than 3 seconds, Alexis will jump on the said object and make a sprint for the nearest exit with a big grin on his face.
Zoé will then start to whine and cry and Alexis will wait until father asks’ him to render the said object to Zoé. He will then oblige and look for congratulations from father. Father will pat Alexis on the back and say thanks for shinning like a star.
This positive reinforcement will make Alexis stalk Zoé’s object of affection again so he can get another pat on the back.
If I could just find a way to congratulate him for not stealing things from his sister!
What is there to say about the past holidays’? I sincerely would like my whole 2008 to look like my holidays… Basically to take time to…
- Spend time with the kids
- Have a glass of wine with my spouse
- Spend time with friends and family
We went to the cottage on the 27th and it was as expected a drastic change of pace. On the first night, after putting the kids to bed, my sister sang as I played guitar in front of the fire. It had been a while since I had spent time with her and it was really great.
I would like to take the time to thank all my Electronic Time Capsule followers for 2007 and wish them all the best for 2008.
As for Electronic Time Capsule, we have some additions we will be doing this year, basically adding slowing to a strong foundation. Should you see something changed or added for 2008, don’t hesitate, send me your request at david@electronictimecapsule.com
Cheers,
David

I laugh when I hear somebody whine about winter… They live in Canada after all and it’s not a matter of choice… coming December, snow will fall. I find it relative to all the other seasons… either you embrace it or either you whine.
To me the first snowfall means different things. In my previous business, I never wanted to go into the office. I owned an insurance agency and I would receive multiple claim reports from vehicles accidents. This would inevitably decrease my commission rates for the following year… In the past I would feel the opposite of black Monday… more like red Monday!
Since I sold the insurance business, it was somewhat different to see my managers adjusting to getting backhoes out to remove snow… Hmm this might be a different world? The reality is snow slows down 85% of our operations from trucking to drainage to excavation… so yeah business wise, it’s still doesn’t like white gold to me!
On the flip side… There is nothing else for a fun time than jumping and sliding in the snow. We spent the whole morning building a fort and throwing snow at each other… we came back in at noon, dripping wet with our cheeks nice and red.
Again, I choose to embrace, as for the others… maybe moving to Texas is an idea!
