We have an ongoing weekly contest at ETC. It’s called the weekly giveaway… Applicants have to give us why and how they would use an account. We received different aplications and this one took it away this week.
I lost most of my family comparatively early in life and then, in my thirties, most of those who remained also passed away. I have no family left save one person, and that’s a niece that was born to my half sister. She knows very little about me and I was hoping that if she could read my online journal here, it might open communications between us. Perhaps we might become friends.
We sincerely wish our service will help this individual re-connect with her family and give her the capacity to send messages to her niece throughout her life.
The Electronic Time Capsule Team
We are quite thrilled Yahoo is launching a new ‘time capsule’ project. The time capsule idea is quite close to our service yet very different. This leads us to discuss the Traditional Time Capsule model (what yahoo is doing) and our service.
Direction :
- Traditional time capsules (Yahoo) are not directed at one individual but rather to whoever wants to read/see.
- Our service identifies one recipient
Why? Relevancy of content for the writer and the recipient
Quantity and time:
- Yahoo has 1 capsule delivered/opened on one date (2020)
- Our system can take a multitude of capsules which can all be opened on individual dates.
Why? The writer/contributor has to choice to deem when it is appropriate his message gets delivered. This feature permits a writer/contributor to keep contact for a complete generation…while alive or not to the benefit of the recipient.
Privacy:
- Yahoo will expose all the contents (when written) and (when received)
- Our service is private as every capsule is confidential between the writer/contributor and the recipient
Why? Relevancy… we prefer by far to look at the photo album of our family. It’s the one that is important to the individual.
I have to say we are very impressed with Yahoo and their project. We hope there is a lot of participation. Visually, we love their website and the whole ‘ball’ effect.
The Gold Ridge Elementary School (California) will be hosting a ‘genealogy’ day.
Kids will be doing genealogy trees and a genealogy expert will come talk about how to share stories and creating time capsules.
Well the PTA organiser called us and asked if we could be involved. After discussions we have agreed to provide a free subscription for a year to all the kids (around 200).
The genealogy day is on November 16th.
If there is other schools or non profit organisation interested in this type of sponsorship, we will gladly look at every event. We put gift certificates in metal capsules for the visual effect.
David
On this important date in history, we at electronic time capsule have launched our blog.
Who will be writing:
David Ryan, President & Creator (also a crazy dad and entrepreneur)
Sophie Ryan, Spouse of Creator (also crazy since she supports David and his crazy ideas)
Karl Parent, VP Marketing (also crazy since he has worked more than 2 months with David and has now been tainted)
What will be written/discussed
- A weekly contest for a free time capsule subscription for the best ‘time capsule moment’ of the week.
- Definition of a time capsule moment, how to , what to write, topics of interest to parents, different usage of this tool from different people.
Misc…
This blog will evolve as a tool do discuss our service with our clients. I foresee many discussion on how the messages will be delivered, security of information and many other technical questions around our service.
I will also expect many comments and joyful and not so joyful time capsule moments of the blogging community.
We all share this: being human with a need to communicate and share and… being mortal.
I Sincerely hope you enjoy the blog and if you have any comments or questions…don’t be shy!
