New Electronic Memorial for Fallen Soldiers

Special to the Union
SACRAMENTO – David Ryan, president of ElectronicTimeCapsule.com, announced the donation of free web accounts to the children and families of all fallen U.S. soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan at the Operation Homefront/Rebels with a Cause gala dinner May 4 in Sacramento’s Grand Ballroom at 1215 J St.
The donation from ElectronicTimeCapsule.com allows fellow service men and women, family members and friends to write and post videos and photos for the children of fallen soldiers, providing these children the opportunity to understand better their parents through the stories and photos of those who knew them well. Based on the writer’s discretion, a child can view the content of his capsule immediately or on a predetermined date, such as an eighteenth birthday.
“ElectronicTimeCapsule.com [was] honored for its service and generosity to families devastated by the conflict in the Middle East,” said Kathleen DeSpain-Moore, Founder and Executive Director of Rebels with a Cause. “We are completely overwhelmed by Mr. Ryan’s generous contribution to the families of our fallen soldiers and all the additional resources he is personally contributing to help alert families and friends to this unique opportunity.”
As of May 2007, the United States Department of Defense reported a combined 3,736 confirmed casualties, making Ryan’s contribution amount to more than $56,000 of free services.
“The decision to honor the lives of these brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice was clear and immediate once I realized ElectronicTimeCapsule.com’s ability to preserve the memory of slain sol- diers,” said Ryan. “Since our services are geared toward leaving mature messages for presently young children, the site is a natural fit for people who want to tell stories or thoughts – many that are not currently suitable for a small child – about a parent who has fallen serving his country.”
Gala proceeds will support Operation Homefront’s work on behalf of military families as well as the Capital-to-Capital Ride Across America and National Military Appreciation Month campaign produced by Rebels with a Cause, a national service organization based in Sacramento and devoted to promoting patriotism and caring for causes.
